    The Department of Environmental Sciences within the LSU School of the Coast and Environment invites nominations and applications for the Claiborne Gasoline Company Chair in Air Quality/Environmental Toxicology. Candidates are sought whose career accomplishments and aspirations are oriented towards solving air pollution and air toxics problems. The Department of Environmental Sciences offers a M.S. in Environmental Sciences, a joint B.S. degree in Coastal Environmental Science, and is currently developing a doctoral program.

    Required Qualifications: Eligible for a tenured position at the Full Professor level; Ph.D. in environmental sciences or related fields with an established strong program of research and extramural funding relevant to solving air pollution and air toxics problems; excellence in teaching, graduate mentor- ing and professional service; ability to work collaboratively to address compelling questions in air quality and environmental toxicology.

    Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Identifies health effects from exposure to air toxic chemicals; studies basic mechanisms associated with air toxic effects on plants and animals; develops strategies that can eliminate or mitigate air toxics and air toxic byproducts; educates students and the public in important issues of air pollution and air toxics control, mitigation and policy. The Department and the School of the Coast and Environment are strongly committed to diversity and encourage applications from individuals with varied backgrounds and perspectives. An offer of employment is contingent on a satisfactory pre-employment background check. Application deadline is February 15, 2008 or until a candidate is selected.
